A petition for “Google to recognize Palestine on Google Maps” has been launched online.

The petition with over 116,000 signatures requests that Google puts Palestine on the maps and to clearly identify the Palestinian territories illegally occupied by Israel.
Daily Star reports:

When you search for Palestine in Google Maps a blank map of Israel is shown – with the areas of Gaza, Judea and Samaria marked.
The petition has called it a “grievous insult” Palestine has not be included on Google Maps.
The petition reads: “Whether intentionally or otherwise Google is making itself complicit in the Israeli government’s ethnic cleansing of Palestine.”

Zak Martin – the petition’s author – calls on “Google to recognise Palestine on Google Maps”.
Twitter users have asked the Internet giant why when you search for Palestine nothing comes up.
One Twitter user wrote: “Why Palestine removed from Google Maps!!!”
Jo Ann Wescott asked: “The country of Palestine does not appear on Google maps. Why not?”
Zainab called the move “absolutely disgraceful”.
Hi Google maps team,
I believe you guys misspelled that, there's no country called Israel
it's PALESTINE@googlemaps

She also wrote: “You cannot wipe an entire nation that is suffering off the map.”
Twitter users have posted screen shots of their Google Map searches for Palestine returning with no results.
